Maccabi  World Union

Movement of World Maccabi  in short Maccabi sports is a Zionist movement founded on Max Nordau ( July 29 1849, Budapest - January 23 1923, Paris ) vision  “Judaica muscles”.

On the Second Zionist Congress in 1898 Nordau called for the return of "the lost muscle Jewry” to its former glory. The “exilic Jew” should gain back “the characters of the “Jewish warrior ", and thus to address the humiliation Jews have suffered from  in Europe and  Anti-Semitism manifestation. Physical rehabilitation of Judaism, according to Nordau, should precede its moral and political reconstruction.

“We must create a strong Jewish again! Yes! Create again! Jewish chronicles indicate that there was once such Judaism….”

The vision of " muscular Judaism " was a catalyst for the establishment of Jewish Associations around the world, which had names represent strength and power: “Maccabi “, " Samson "," power "," Bar Kochba Berlin " and more.

Today Maccabi is a global Jewish organization spanning five continents, more than 50 countries and boasting some 400,000 members. Many Maccabi clubs serve as community centers, providing a diversity of educational, cultural, social and sports activities under one roof.
