June 2010
Dear Maccabi member Families, Players and Friends ;
We , the stirring committee of the club Sorek Galit , Donald Folkoff , new in office Michal Mitlanski and myself , would like to take this opportunity of launching our new website to thank you all for your commitment to our club that inspired us in our work throughout the whole season.
As the seasons ended is good opportunity to thank you players for participating with great enthusiasm in the club program, and to thank you volunteers, members, and donors for the fantastic and important support of yours in our club.
It is also good opportunity to conclude this season and share with you the current stirring committee goals and achievements which can be seen vividly throughout the club web site that we launce.
The goals of Maccabi Singapore are straightforward, vital and the main reason for loving this organization:
- To reach out to all the Jewish youth that lives in Singapore and strengthen this wonderful club as sportive platform to bring them together.
- To provide our members with the platform to strengthen their ties to our Jewish heritage and ideals.
- To strengthen the bond between our community youth and the State of Israel as well as the Jewish communities worldwide
This season we have grown to run seven basketball teams of various age groups and for both genders, four of which had participated in local community league games. Our aim in that respect was to cater as many age groups as we could.
The club training program had shifted from volunteer basis to a professional one. This shift coupled with your commitment to the club activities had made the change this season. As such, although we were the smallest club with only 4 teams taking part in the league games we won two trophies: U12 boys winning 2nd place and U12 Girls winning the 3rd place.
At this point I would like to commend you kids for your incredible performance this season; you have brought great pride to our community not only for the great sportive achievements you have made, but also for the great sportsmanship spirit and passion that characterized your wonderful participation in the club program, as well as in several special event we have participated in during this season.
As mentioned this season we were (among other things) focused more on initiating events to bond our youth with their heritage and the state of Israel. As such we have participated in an International Day Games being a Jewish sport organization, we held the club’s first Israel Independence day Carnival and participated in International Flag Parade .For those who were not there at these events you can find pictures taken during the event placed under the Events tag in the website.
Heading towards the next season, we intend to call for our seasonal meeting and hope to see you all there to hear our report, vote and nominate a new committee and its officers that will head the club next season. Since our club is a volunteer-driven organization, your participation and help to run the club activities are crucial to strengthening our unique and life-changing programs, to increase awareness and visibility of our existence and achievements.
I am proud to say that true to our name, our club embodies the heroic spirit of the Maccabees and is a vivid demonstration of the strength, vitality and unity of the Jewish People. We therefore want to thank you all for your support, hard work and commitment to building the Maccabi Singapore club and supporting its programs. This attitude of yours will certainly continue to bring together the Jewish youth and get them closer to their culture and the State of Israel.
